Welcome to the fall 2021 semester. To help you make a smooth transition to the start of the term, I’ve provided a list of key reminders and resources to have at your fingertips for quick reference. I hope you find this useful and helpful.

Academic Instruction Guidance

The newest edition of academic instruction guidance, Volume 2, Edition 1: August 11, 2021

Required Syllabus Statements

Statements required for every class syllabus have been emailed to all instructors and are also available on the Academic Affairs policy site. Scroll down to “Required Syllabus Statements” and click on the “Syllabus Statements for Faculty” to download.

Changes to the Course Alert

The Office of Undergraduate Education is introducing changes to the undergraduate course alert process this fall that will allow instructors greater flexibility for submitting alerts based on their course timeline and students more time to respond. See the 񱦵 Today article for detailed information.

Academic Support and Resources

񱦵 offers a broad array of academic support options to students, including tutoring within the residence halls; specialized advising for majors and other groups like high achievers or students who need help in targeted areas; organized group study sessions; a writing center, and support for transfer students.

Students’ academic access and progress are also supported by the offices of Health and Wellness Services,Counseling and Psychiatric Services, Student Support & Case Management, Disability Services, and International Student and Scholar Services. 񱦵 provides a Red Folder for faculty and staff to use to assist students in distress. The Red Folder includes information on how to recognize signs of distress, tips for responding, and how to refer a student to the appropriate campus resource(s). If you don’t already have the icon on your desktop, go to the Red Folder web page to create a shortcut.

Teaching Resources from the Center for Teaching & Learning and Office of Information Technology

The Center for Teaching & Learning is your comprehensive resource for programs, workshops, consultations, and online resources for your teaching. to the monthly newsletter designed for the campus teaching community. The Office of Information Technology offers many for teaching effectively with technology.

Masks Requirement

񱦵 has returned to requiring masks in public indoor spaces regardless of vaccination status as of Aug. 13, 2021.

Proof of COVID-19 Vaccine Requirement

The most effective tool against serious illness from COVID-19—including the delta variant—is vaccination. Please submit your information online by Sept. 15.

Faculty and staff who need work-related accommodations or leave because of COVID-19-related issues should consult the Human Resources webpage and follow up with Human Resources as needed.

Student Involvement

Faculty and staff can play an important role in helping students find their passions and get connected. This week kicks off Fall Welcome. Students can also connect with the Center for Student Involvement to find student groups and opportunities that meet their interests.
