Congratulations to our 2018 Graduate Student Research Awardees

Congratulations to Zach Cooper, Kaitlyn Davis, Clara Lee and Hannah Van Eendendurg on their Graduate Student Research Awards!

This Academic Year our department has $10,000 from the College of Arts and Sciences to support graduate student research.Ìý All graduate students in good standing were eligible to apply. These funds are intended primarily to support doctoral students for preliminary field or laboratory projects leading to externally-funded doctoral dissertation research grants. This is because successful dissertation grant proposals from agencies such as NSF, NEH, SSRC, or NIMH often require preliminary field or laboratory work to be competitive.Ìý In other words, these grants are not intended to fund actual dissertation work, but the preliminary work needed to develop a dissertation topic.Ìý The Graduate Committee also considered proposals from MA students for such needs as travel to field sites, collection repositories, or focused training in topics that CU does not offer (for example, processing bone for chemical analysis).

Congratulations to all recipients!
