Anthropology major Aaron La Maskin was named the Outstanding Undergraduate for Arts & Sciences for the class of 2020.

At CU, Aaron works with Professors. Alison Cool and Jen Shannon in the department. His research for the senior honors thesis focused on the “Here, Now and, Always” exhibit at the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Though his research was primarily with the visitors, staff, and collaborators for the exhibit, he was able to reach a new level of understanding about how people work together, how they tell stories about themselves, and how they understand - and celebrate - differences in the ways that they think about the world.

Aaron reminisces from his research, “Understanding and celebrating others’ mindsets is critical – now more than ever. As we all come face to face with unprecedented experiences and challenges, we must remember that it is our differences that make us strong and that it is through this strength, through working together for a common good, that we can become the best versions of ourselves that we can be.” Aaron is the second Anthropology major in recent years to be acknowledged as an outstanding Graduate of the College of Arts and Sciences and we couldn’t be prouder of him!
