ChuÌýMay Paing (Cultural, Phd Candidate)Ìýwas interviewed by Visual Rebellion Myanmar about her research on social media activism in Myanmar.Ìý Her research on Burmese netizens’ use of social media focuses on how they use the languages in social media posts, messages and visual representations to share their reactions and feelings about certain major social events in Myanmar. She argues that people’s interactions with social media are more than a tool of communication, and that social media in and of itself has become the way of life for Myanmar people in dealing with not only politics but also their everyday activities, ranging from selling clothes via Facebook lives to attending online protest events via widely used conferencing platforms.
