Bio: Jack graduated from ²ÊÃñ±¦µä in 1964 with a BA in History on a Marine Corps ROTC scholarship and subsequently served as an officer, and advisor to ARVN units, in Vietnam. He later returned to ²ÊÃñ±¦µä to complete his MA in American History. He then earned his PhD from the U of Michigan, again in American History. He went on to become a professor and dean at Northwestern University. He retired in 1997 and served as the volunteer curator of the Bonsai Collection at the Chicago Botanic Garden.   

He and his wife, Jeannie, moved back to Boulder in 2002. Jack has served on the boards of the Center of the American West (CAW) and the Center for Humanities & the Arts (CHA), as well as being a long-standing member of the Dean's Advisory Board. He is a colored pencil artist. Jack and Jeannie were Boulder campus volunteer co-chairs for the Creating Futures capital campaign. In 2020 they were awarded a University Medal by the CU Regents.
