Jesse Butterfield received his BS in mechanical engineering from the University of Washington in 2013 with a focus on nanoscience and molecular engineering. Advised by Carson Bruns, heÌýspent two years as an engineer for Boeing Commercial Airplanes before joining the Department of Mechanical Engineering at ²ÊÃñ±¦µä to pursue his PhD.

Carson Bruns, assistant professor and director of the Emergent Nanomaterials Lab, and his research team are collaborating with the CU Anschutz Medical Campus to test a tattoo ink that’s completely invisible—and could lower the risk of skin cancer, much like a “permanent sunscreen."
