Research Interests
My research interests are mostly in the fields of ancient Chinese philosophy、religion and ancient science and technology. I am particularly interested in the “Needham Paradox” proposed by Joseph Needham:“why modern science had not developed in Chinese civilization (or Indian) but only in Europe”. I believe it’s the mode of thinking which was constructed by the ancient Chinese philosophy and religion hindered the development of science in ancient China. Now I am working on the project of the ancient Chinese Bencao (materia medica) scriptures. My purpose is to explore the history of origin and development of the Benaco, from a kind of religious treatment to a kind medical treatment; I also want to explore how did the philosophical concept influenced the pharmacy theory in ancient China.
