The College of Media, Communication and Information welcomes Glenn Griffin, who will join the Department of Advertising, Public Relations and Media Design (APRD) as an associate professor in August 2017.
“We’re excited that Glenn brings more than two decades of experience teaching courses in creativity and portfolio development to the college,” said Harsha Gangadharbatla, an associate professor and founding chair of the department. “As someone with a robust academic background, as well as creative experience as an art director and consultant, he offers a special blend of expertise.”
Griffin’s research on creativity, advertising education and social responsibility has appeared in publications including the Journal of Advertising, Psychology and Marketing, the Journal of Interactive Advertising and the Journal of Advertising Education. His articles center on topics from experimental technologies to crowdsourcing.
In 2010, Griffin and Deborah Morrison co-authored the book The Creative Process Illustrated: How Advertising’s Big Ideas Are Born, which was one of Amazon’s top 10 bestselling advertising books. His students’ work has also been featured nationally and internationally in Advertising Age, Adweek, CMYK and other magazines.
Previously, Griffin led the creative programs at the University of Alabama and Southern Methodist University.
“Glenn’s status as one of only two or three people in the country with a PhD in advertising who researches the creative process makes him a standout figure in the industry,” Gangadharbatla said.
