Video still of (Modern) Formations III

About the cover: (Modern) Formations III video still

is a three-part, single-channel video series by Intermedia Art, Writing and Performance PhD candidate Laura Hyunjhee Kim that reimagines the absurd beauty of being immersed in a world filtered through networked screens. The on-screen performances explore the physicality of actions, materiality of electronic devices, and the virtuality of tethered minds “wandering” and “drifting” into altered digital states of being. The finale of the series, (Modern) Formations III, documents the bodily movements of 34 people on their personal mobile phones telematically interacting with an offscreen, real-time performer.
