For the past 10 years Greg Butler (Acct) and Brian Fisher (Mktg) have successfully run their business, This is a Clue Trivia. They and their employees are found at about 40 bars a week across Colorado and Texas, and are continuing to grow.

Rajesh Bagchi (PhDBus) was named head of the marketing department at Virginia Tech’s Pamplin College of Business. After graduating, Rajesh began teaching at Virginia Tech in 2008. He focuses his research on the psychological processes that underlie decision-making in consumers and managers.

Kate Mishara (Jour) is a school leader at Wyatt Academy, a K-5Title I elementary school in the Denver Five Points neighborhood. “My work at Wyatt has transformed us from a school to a hub of community resources and an institution of learning,” Kate wrote. “At our school, we deeply believe in meeting the basic needs of our scholars and families.” To help provide for student and family needs, the school has built an all-natural food pantry, a no-cost clothing shop and a family computer lab. It will soon add a washing machine and dryer to the community resource center.

Maria O’Malley (PhDEngl’08) co-authored the book Beyond 1776: Globalizing the Cultures of the American Revolution. Maria is an associate professor at the University of Nebraska, Kearney, where she specializes in colonial and early American literature, multicultural and transnational literature, poetry and Emily Dickinson.

Benjamin Kramer (Fin’08) joined the Fort Collins-based law firm Gast Johnson & Muffly as a shareholder. He joined the firm in 2015 and focuses on business, real estate and estate planning matters. He is co-chair of the firm’s pro bono program and president of the Young Lawyers Division of the Larimer County Bar Association.

Rick Thomas (PolSci’08) was promoted to shareholder at the law firm Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck. He is a member of the firm’s real estate department in its Denver headquarters, and he represents developers, buyers and sellers of a variety of properties, including senior living facilities, shopping centers, golf courses, medical office buildings and hospitals.

In Septmeber Dan Mackin (ElCompEngr) and °Ő°ů±đ˛ÔłŮĚý±á±đľ±˛Ô (CompSci’91) launched Rule4, a Boulder-based company that focuses on cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, IT and more. The duo also co-wrote the fifth edition of the Unix and Linux System Administration Handbook.

Carlin Karr (Comm) drinks wine for a living: She's wine director for the Boulder restaurants Frasca Food and Wine and Pizzeria Locale and Denver restaurant Tavernetta. She was named one of this year’s “Sommeliers of the Year” by Food & Wine magazine, and was featured in an article titled “Liquid Diet: Sommelier Carlin Karr Crushes LaCroix and Tastes 50 Wines Before Dinner Service.” Carlin lives in Boulder with her husband, Adam, and their dog, Coche.

Ted Vardell (Comm) and his brother Tommy Vardell, former NFL fullback, started the Boulder- based nonprofit called Brotherbird Foundation in 2016 to encourage youth to explore art, music and sports. The organization has hosted programs at the Temple Grandin School of Autism, Denver School of the Deaf, Malley Elementary, OUR Center of Longmont, Columbine Spanish Immersion Elementary and Mountain Children’s Foster Home.

After graduating from CU Margot Hensler Phelps (Astro) worked at Caltech, helping install the Advanced Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) in Hanford, Wash., and Livingston, La. During her time on the team (three members of whom won the 2017 Nobel Prize in Physics), she patented an optics cleaning process. She then completed her doctorate in gravitational  wave research at the University of Glasgow. In March she will begin a post-doc position at the Albert Einstein Gravitational Wave Institute in Hanford, Germany.

On Sept. 9, Kate Goltz Moulton (Psych) and Kevin Moulton (Biochem, MCDBio’08) were married at the Sunrise Amphitheater in Boulder. The couple dated for 11 years after meeting their junior year at a party on The Hill. Officiant Jared Leidich (AeroEngr’09) also graduated from CU.

After moving to Argentina on a whim in 2010, David Burg (Hum) stumbled into his dream career. While looking for a season ski pass in the Catedral Alta Patagonia region, he ended up with a job for South America Snow Sessions, an adventure travel business. Today he is director of finance for SASS and serves as general manager for its backcountry program in Argentina. David splits his time between SASS’ global headquarters in Rincon, Puerto Rico, and his home base in Steamboat Springs, Colo.

He is helping launch Bixler Collegiate (bixlercollegiate.com) licensed fine jewelry, and is launching in a big way with CU. The line, in sterling silver and 14k gold with diamonds and gemstones, will be available via the company website and local retail outlets, as well as through the Alumni Association. Jevan resides on the East Coast with another Buff, his wife Jerusha Fox (·ˇ˛Ô˛µ±ô’11).

Nichole Geddes (Advert) of Heat ad agency in San Francisco appeared in Adweek’s list of “50 Creatives Whose Brilliant Ideas and Beautiful Craft Will Make You Jealous.” Nichole was recognized for her creative work on TV ad campaigns for the travel site Hotwire.com and EA Sports’ football video game Madden 16.

Nikita Duncan Coulombe (Art, Psych) co-authored Man, Interrupted, a book that explores why young men are struggling academically and socially, which was published in April. Nikita is passionate about understanding human nature and co-founded the sex education blog BetterSexEd.org.

Rajesh Bagchi (PhDBus), associate professor of marketing at Virginia Tech, received the Early Career Award from the Society for Consumer Psychology for his contributions to the field of consumer psychology. Rajesh’s research interests are in pricing, numerosity, goals and loyalty rewards. He has co-authored many journal articles examining how consumers view or deal with numbers in their decision making. His other research has involved how willingness to buy is influenced by color and word sounds. He has also won several research and teaching awards, including the Young Scholar Award from the Marketing Science Institute in 2013.

After graduating, Orla Stiles (Comm) moved to New York to work in fashion, got engaged and moved back to Los Angeles, her hometown. While wedding dress shopping, she felt there wasn’t a stylish option for the “carefree, fashion-forward” bride in L.A. She took a risk and in January officially opened Solstice Bride on Abbot Kinney Blvd. in Venice, Calif. “Imagine a fuss-free space where you can drink champagne with your friends, listen to your favorite tunes and try on effortlessly cool wedding gowns,” said Orla. She has even sold a few gowns to CU alumni.

Born in the village of Chukudum, South Sudan, Micklina Peter Kenyi (PolSci) was the first “lost girl” from the Kakuma Refugee Camp to flee and resettle in Colorado after bombing hit her community. Separated from her parents, she walked for weeks to the border of Kenya and was placed in the Kakuma Refugee Camp, which put her and other girls in danger of rape and violence. After her graduation, she raised funding for a school in South Sudan that will open in 2016. She has worked to bring lost girls from Sudan to the U.S.
