As a member of CU-Boulder鈥檚 Alumni Association board for seven years听Doug Nelson* (Anth鈥�77) never forgot to remind the board chair that the CU Fight Song must be sung at every meeting. In May board members thanked Doug for being their No. 1 cheerleader, the voice of reason for many years, fearless in asking tough questions and driving from Kansas for three-hour executive committee meetings. Doug鈥檚 board term ended in May. A financial planner, he lives in Bonner Springs, Kan., with his wife and daughter.

On Jan. 5听John Suthers听(Law鈥�77) appeared in听The Denver Post听for becoming the second-longest-serving attorney general in Colorado history. He was sworn in on Jan. 4, 2005, by Gov. Bill Owens. Duke Dunbar, who served 22 years from 1951-73, has the longest tenure. John lives in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Last fall听Tucker Hart Adams听(MEcon鈥�77, PhD鈥�78) spoke at the Boulder Valley Real Estate Conference at the Millennium Harvest House in Boulder. She is a senior partner of Summit Economics, a consulting firm that provides economic analysis and research for individuals and businesses. Tucker has monitored and analyzed the Colorado economy for 30 years and is a contributor to Summit鈥檚 blog, 鈥淭oday鈥檚 Economy: A Colorado Viewpoint.鈥�听She lives in Colorado Springs and is a trustee of the CU Foundation. She received the Alumni Association鈥檚 Alumni Recognition Award in 1991.

Author听David Goodwin听(EnvCon, Geog鈥�77) published his first novel听Slave Camp Nightclub听set in Boulder on The Hill and at an imaginary quarry on Sugarloaf during summer of 1976. The story follows three college students who live in a vegetarian, hippie house and take a job at a quarry during that Bicentennial summer. After they start work, they are told that the quarry has a nightclub and they are expected to live there. The students experience the magic of the nightclub and try to figure out what is real and imagined. The book is available at Amazon and Barnes and Noble. David lives in Shutesbury, Mass.

After living on the Garden Isle of Kaua鈥檌, Hawaii, professional copywriter and creative marketing coach听Debra Jason听(MComDisor鈥�77) moved back to Boulder. She is owner of The Write Direction, which proudly celebrated its 24th anniversary. Founded in Boulder, The Write Direction specializes in writing web and direct marketing
communications.

Boulder photographer听James Balog鈥檚听(MGeog鈥�77) photo of Birthday Canyon in Greenland appeared in听The Denver Post听in November.听James is the protagonist in the documentary听Chasing Ice听directed by Jeff Orlowski, a film that follows James bearing witness to rapidly changing glaciers. The documentary premiered at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival and received the best cinematography award. James鈥� photo also was on pages 66-67 of the December 2012听Coloradan.

Boulder resident听Joan Knapp听(PhDEngl鈥�77) appeared in the article 鈥淧ushing Back on Parkinson鈥檚鈥� in the Nov. 13, 2012, issue of听The Denver Post. Joan was diagnosed with Parkinson鈥檚 disease about two years ago when she had trouble walking unassisted and getting up from a chair. After joining the Parkinson鈥檚 Boot Camp exercise class at the Boulder YMCA last March, Joan has improved. 鈥淲hen I came here, I was teetering all over the place. I function like a normal person now. I can do so much more than I ever thought I could,鈥� Joan told听The Post.

After coming to Boulder in 1975 during the gay rights movement and the first same-sex marriage licenses being issued,听Gregory Hinton听(Bus鈥�77) was inspired to write a book about it,听The Way Things Ought To Be听(Kensington). He is creator of a unique education program series called Out West. Out West informs others on the history and culture of the LGBT community in the American West and is sponsored by HBO and the Gill Foundation. 鈥淢y experiences in Boulder directly inform this program,鈥� Gregory says. He lives in Los Angeles.

Rio Hondo College superintendent and president听Ted Martinez Jr.听(EdD鈥�77) retired in June after 41 years of service in community college education. Ted says he is very proud of the progress the college has made during his tenure as he completed his fifth year as president. One of his major accomplishments includes the completion of a $245 million construction program that revitalized the aging hilltop campus. He lives in San Diego, Calif.

Colorado attorney general听John Suthers听(Law鈥�77) appeared in听The Denver Post听in July when he and several of his deputies delivered to the Supreme Court their rebuttal to a lower court ruling that threw out the state鈥檚 public education funding system,听Lobato vs. Colorado. He believes how the state funds public education is a political question, not something that should be decided in court. John lives in Colorado Springs.

Elyse Dolph Foster听(PolSci鈥�77) is founding principal of Boulder-based Harbor Financial Group. She was interviewed by Moneyshow.com in March and emphasized the importance of being in the market and the need for well-diversified portfolios containing a percentage of domestic and foreign equities, both large-cap and small-cap.

Vice president and general manager of DOCUmation, the largest independent provider of business technology in the Southwest,听Barry Rogers听(Mgmt鈥�77) helped open a branch last year in Centennial, Colo., called DOCUmation of the Rockies. Barry assembled a team of industry professionals with more than 140 years of experience. He lives in Aurora, Colo.

A five-year federal grant from the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine will help听Dale Hales听(MCDBio鈥�77, PhDBioChem鈥�83) test the effectiveness of a flaxseed enriched diet on suppressing ovarian cancer. He is a professor of physiology and gynecology/obstetrics at Southern Illinois University where he also chairs the physiology department and serves as a member of the Simmons Cancer Institute.

Williston, Vt., resident听Stephen Mease听(Jour鈥�77) is director of public information and news at Champlain College in Burlington. He has served as the college鈥檚 co-chair of the annual United Way of Chittenden County Community Campaign for two years.

In addition to serving on the Alumni Association board of directors, offering guidance and support,听Gordon Trafton II* (Bus鈥�77) donated $500,000 to the business school鈥檚 professional mentoring program. While at CU, Gordon was mentored by professor Jerry Foster who gave him connections and career advice, helping him land a job. He lives in Naperville, Ill.

On-air host听Douglas Dinsmoor听(EPOBio鈥�77) spends time at jazz station KUVO 89.3 in Denver, serving as a fill-in on the station. He鈥檚 been broadcasting there for eight years. He had his own show for 16 years on WMFO, Tufts University. Check him out on twitter@eMarketingBrain.

Writer Donald E. Hall (EdD鈥�78) published a sequel to his acclaimed novel, A Good and Decent Man. More Than Rumor picks up where the first novel ends and follows the characters from 1933 to 1942 鈥� through the Great Depression and the beginning of World War II. Donald lives in Sebring, Florida.听

A Good and Decent Man, a historical Christian romance by Donald E. Hall (EdD鈥�78), was released on Amazon in August 2021. This 281-page novel follows farmer and mechanic Raleigh Curtiss as he serves in WWI and his quest to be with the woman he loves, despite her disapproving father. One reviewer said, 鈥�A Good and Decent Man has everything: love, hate, revenge, reconciliation and death plus the history of a decade that changed America forever.鈥� He lives in Sebring, Florida.

On March 10, Colorado Law will award Herrick K. Lidstone Jr.(Law鈥�78) the Distinguished Achievement Private Practice award. During his career, Herrick has been a shareholder at Burns Figa & Will P.C. law firm, published more than 30 articles for the Colorado Lawyer and lectured at many universities and institutes. Among his other achievements, Herrick has also served on the Colorado Bar Association鈥檚 business law section as a member of the executive council. Herrick and his wife, Mary Lynne, have five grandchildren and reside in Centennial, Colorado.

As the executive vice president and head of production at Shondaland media, Sara Fischer (Advert, Engl鈥�78) oversees and manages the production of series produced by Shondaland media. Sara was in charge of the production of Netflix鈥檚 hit show Bridgerton, which came out in 2020. She also led production of Inventing Anna, which debuted Feb. 11 on Netflix. She lives in Los Angeles.
