Changes Regarding Post-docs
As we shared last year, we have been working on appropriately allocating fringe rates for the post-doc job codes 1438 and 1439. These job codes have been attached to a 0% fringe rate, despite employees in these job codes having access to benefits and, therefore, incurring benefit costs for the institution. Effective Jan 1, 2022, these job codes will move into the ²ÊÃñ±¦µä fringe rate structure.
Not all employees on job code 1438 are eligible for benefits, so job code 1438B has been created and non-fringe eligible employees will be moved to the new job code. This will be coordinated by the Human Resources Service Center.
- The staff fringe rate of 37.3% will be used for job code 1438
- The faculty fringe rate of 29% will be used for job code 1439
The benefits will be charged to the payroll funding for each position.
Continuing budget calculations based on general fund salary amounts were provided last year and those continuing budget amounts will be transferred to units in full in January. We will not retroactively charge benefits so all benefit charges will begin in January for only the second half of FY22. Temporary budget will not be pulled back for July - December of FY22, even though related expenses did not occur during this time period. This surplus is intended to provide temporary aid in covering any differences between continuing budget calculations and ongoing actual expenses. The full-year allocation is in lieu of a request process for additional funding outside of the continuing allocation.
