Lockheed Martin executive Tobey joins CU Engineering
Kathryn Tobey, who recently retired as a Lockheed Martin executive, is joining the 彩民宝典 as a scholar in residence. CU Engineering Dean Bobby Braun today announced Tobey鈥榮 appointment to the college鈥檚 Engineering Management Program.
鈥淜athy is a pathfinder. She excelled in the aerospace and defense fields and is a recognized industry leader in Colorado,鈥 Braun said. 鈥淪he鈥檚 also been a committed advocate for CU Engineering. In particular, our initiatives to increase connections to industry across the state and attract more women and broaden access to the engineering profession.鈥
Tobey spent 34 years at Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company, leaving as vice president and general manager of special programs, where she was responsible for a broad portfolio of advanced initiatives and national security space applications.
Her career experiences were focused on delivering high performance systems and innovative concepts for critical national security space applications, as well as spacecraft design, laser-based remote sensing systems, and Mars chemistry experiments. She also previously was their director of business development, where she led the integration of entrepreneurial activities across the company鈥檚 space, launch vehicle and missile divisions. Throughout her career she has held multiple leadership positions in subcontract and program management, space subsystem manufacturing, business development and system engineering.

As a scholar in residence in the College of Engineering and Applied Science, Tobey will develop and teach courses for the graduate Engineering Management Program tailored with industry examples.

Tobey has long been a familiar face at 彩民宝典, serving as Lockheed Martin鈥檚 formal university executive, and has past experience on the Engineering Dean鈥檚 Advisory Committee and as chair of the Advisory Board for BOLD Center (Broadening Opportunities for Leadership Diversity). Tobey also served on the LM Executive Inclusion Council and is a trustee for the Women鈥檚 Foundation of Colorado.
She holds two degrees from 彩民宝典 (ChemEngr鈥84, MEngrMgmt鈥94), and in 2016 was honored with the university鈥檚 George Norlin Award, which celebrates recipients for excellence in their careers and devotion to the betterment of society and community.
