Nick Berg
Nick Berg, an architecture major with a business minor from Crystal Lake, Illinois, plans to go to graduate school to continue his education.
Best of luck and don't be a stranger. We all were so separated by COVID and I think a lot of us lost touch because we haven't been spending hours in the studio together each and every day anymore. I hope that we can all work on getting back together in the future.
Tell us about your involvement and/or student leadership roles in and/or outside of ENVD.
AIAS President, Student Ambassador, Teaching Assistant
What inspired you to come to ENVD when choosing your school?
I took one Architectural Design class in high school in which we completed an awesome Design-Build project and from then on I knew that Architecture was what I wanted to do.
What is one of the greatest experiences or lessons from your time at ²ÊÃñ±¦µä that you'll carry with you into the next chapter of your life?
Teaching others. I was a teaching assistant for Jade Polizzi and teaching freshman students the basics in drafting, modeling, and sketching taught me so much about how to effectively teach people. I would love to carry this into my career.
Based on what you know now, what is your best piece of advice for other students?
Work on campus! On-campus jobs, especially the ones that are correlated with your major, are the greatest experience.
Describe one of your favorite memories.
Visiting our studio's site in Taos, New Mexico at the Lama Foundation in the Spring of 2020. Three friends from the studio and myself went down two days early to go car camping and ski at Taos before the weekend that the rest of the studio planned to be in Taos. Once meeting up, Jade's studio walked the site, met the people who live there, and discussed their needs. This was the coolest part of any studio project that I ever got to participate in. If only COVID didn't erase our opportunity to build that summer.
What does graduating from college represent for you?
A huge step in the right direction for my career. I cannot wait for what is next.
What are your plans beyond graduation?
Graduate school! Our last year and a half was killed by COVID, therefore, I want more school!
