Undergraduate Contract Faculty Lecturer Recruitment and Hiring

The Program in Environmental Design (ENVD) at the ²ÊÃñ±¦µä invites applications for pre-qualified lecturers to teach courses in its undergraduate program. The department offers a B.EnvD with majors in architecture, landscape architecture, environmental product design and sustainable planning & urban design. Currently, ENVD has over 700 undergraduates divided among the four majors. A key element of the teaching faculty are practitioners who bring outside perspectives to the core teaching faculty. This combination of outside lecturers and core faculty provides the foundation to educate the next generation of design professionals who combine knowledge of design, the environment, advanced research, technology, and community engagement to address emerging challenges in the built environment.

Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. Lecturers teach courses on an as-needed basis. The number of positions depends on the needs of the program in each academic year. Lecturers typically teach first year and second year studio courses. Occasionally the program has openings for junior/senior studios, electives, and other lecture/seminar courses.

Qualification depends on the expected teaching responsibilities, however, it is generally accepted that meeting at least two of the qualifications listed below will qualify a candidate to teach undergraduate coursework within a primary design discipline:

  • 1 academic year (2 semesters) of full-time teaching experience
  • Professional license to practice, in good standing (e.g., through DORA)
  • Master’s degree in the area of expertise
  • 5+ years of professional experience in the area of expertise

Candidates should submit a cover letter detailing relevant professional and teaching experience, including a brief statement (<300 words) of teaching interests and capabilities; a curriculum vitae, and names and contact information for three professional and/or academic references (please do not solicit letters).
