Is personal training really for everyone?

Short answer: Yes

There are a lot of misconceptions around personal training. It may seem like personal training is only for those who are experienced in the gym or that you have to know exactly what kind of program you want to participate in. However, there’s a lot more to personal training than meets the eye. Here are some reasons to consider working with a personal trainer.

All experience levels welcome

Whether you’re new to the gym or have been around the block a few times, personal training is a great resource for any level of fitness. Trainers customize all programs to meet your specific needs and goals. For beginners, personal training is a great resource to help you get started and master some basic mechanics and lifts. For those who have more experience, personal training can be great if you’re looking to switch it up, challenge yourself or see better results.

Go beyond lifting

Personal trainers don’t just develop plans for different experience levels, they can also develop routines to help you meet specific goals. While personal training is a popular option for weightlifting, it’s also great for other activities. Looking for more sport-specific training? Have a competition or race coming up? Personal training is a great way to prepare for a variety of events and competitions.

Stay accountable

Motivation doesn’t always come easily, and it can be hard to keep ourselves accountable on our own. When we workout alone, it becomes easier to put it off because there’s no one there to hold us accountable. However, when you have a personal trainer, they can become a great source of motivation. Hearing your trainer congratulate you for your hard work, consistency and progress might be that that extra boost you need to keep reaching for your goals.

Feel more comfortable

Gym-timidation is real, and it can be hard to ask someone how to use a machine or a piece of equipment that you’re unfamiliar with. Personal trainers can take much of that anxiety off your shoulders. They’re there to support you and want you to ask questions. In fact, personal trainers are a great resource for making sure you’re using proper form to prevent injuries and strains and improve your overall progress.

Overcome slumps

Have you hit a plateau or are you feeling bored with your current program? Personal trainers can help by introducing you to new training methods and exercises. For some trainers, no two sessions look the same. Beyond adding variety and interest to your workouts, these adjustments can help ensure that you see continued progress by challenging your current fitness level.

The best part of personal training is that it’s personal. You can choose to work with a trainer regularly, or attend a set number of sessions. Working with a trainer even a few times can provide a great foundation, increase your comfort and knowledge of equipment and help you to create your own workout structure.
