Foley, Casagrand win Chancellor's Award for curriculum mapping project

Senior Instructors Teresa Foley and Janet Casagrand have received a $10,000 Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in STEM Education through the Center for STEM Learning at 񱦵. These competitive awards were established in 2009 to support faculty and graduate student engagement in innovative research on student learning and implementation of research-based STEM education program initiatives. Their proposal entitled ”Curriculum Mapping: An Essential Tool for Undergraduate Curriculum Development and Alignment in Integrative Physiology” will build upon the continued commitment of the Department to improve our undergraduate teaching curriculum. More specifically, this award allows these faculty to develop an IPHY curriculum map. Curriculum maps are beneficial in providing visual representations of what goals are accomplished in each course, and how the courses build upon and align within a curriculum. This knowledge is crucial to assess whether our department is successful in accomplishing its intended goals, and can assist in making informed decisions about revisions to the undergraduate curriculum. Work on this project will begin Spring 2019.
