J-1 Exchange Visitors: Engaging in J-1 Related Activity Outside of ²ÊÃñ±¦µä Requires Prior Approval
Reminder for J-1 Exchange Visitors
Your J-1 exchange visitor status allows you to perform your J-1 exchange visitor program activities, objectives, and goals at ²ÊÃñ±¦µä as outlined in the initial DS-2019 request paperwork submitted by your sponsoring ²ÊÃñ±¦µä department.
Exchange visitors in the Research Scholar, Professor, and Short-Term Scholar categories may be authorized to participate in occasional lectures and short-term consultations that are incidental to the exchange visitor’s primary program activities. The authorization must be obtained from ISSS in writing prior to engaging in the activity. You must be authorized for Incidental Employment to receive an honorarium, compensation, or reimbursement of expenses related to the occasional lecture, consultation, or other collaborative activity from an entity other than ²ÊÃñ±¦µä prior to the activity.
Please carefully review the ISSS website regarding Incidental Employment, which includes information on how to obtain authorization for incidental employment.
Please reach out to your ISSS J-1 Advisor if you have any questions.
