Preview Weekend for Underrepresented Prospective Grad Students

Interested in a PhD program? The Colorado Advantage Graduate Preview Weekend (November 2-4, 2017) is can introduce you to the outstanding Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) doctoral programs at ²ÊÃñ±¦µä.

Current college seniors, recent graduates, and master's degree students from underrepresented groups are welcome to apply for the program. If accepted, you will participate in tours and workshops that:

  • showcase the benefits of earning a ²ÊÃñ±¦µä STEM doctoral degree
  • assist students in preparing competitive graduate school applications
  • allow students to meet with faculty and tour labs in their areas of interest
  • provide the opportunity to meet with current underrepresented doctoral students and gain insight in the community that exists at ²ÊÃñ±¦µä
  • let students experience the natural beauty of Boulder

Travel and lodging is provided for accepted students.

The Colorado Advantage Graduate Preview Weekend provides an opportunity for underrepresented students to visit campus and preview doctoral programs in science, math, and engineering departments at ²ÊÃñ±¦µä.

Event Schedule

Thursday

Participants arrive by early afternoon on Thursday, November 2.  After lunch at C4C, participants will meet with program organizers for an orientation, and then a campus tour (faculty visits will supersede this tour, which can be given informally at a later time). There will be a welcome dinner that evening with current graduate students. Faculty are also welcome to attend the dinner, which will be held on campus.

Friday

Friday morning will be filled with workshops on preparing a competitive ²ÊÃñ±¦µä application, and will include a panel of faculty discussing the graduate admissions process, which varies among departments. After lunch, participants will have the afternoon free for scheduled faculty meetings and the opportunity to tour departmental facilities. The day will end with an informal dinner with current graduate students in downtown Boulder.

Saturday

In the morning, a panel of graduate students will discuss their graduate admissions experiences, and offer tips and advice.

 

Participants have the option of leaving Saturday, or staying until Sunday morning.
