• Our amazing students and alumni never cease to inspire: In Professor of Musicology Rob Shay鈥檚 MUSC 4202 class last spring, Emma Shelby鈥攚ho graduated in May (BA)鈥攔esearched the music of Maddalena Casulana, the first published woman composer (at least in the Western world). According to Shay, her works appeared in several Italian prints in the 1560s and 1570s. Shelby discovered that one of Casulana鈥檚 madrigals, previously thought to survive only in an incomplete state, has in fact come down to us in a complete state in a printed anthology from the time, which survives in a library in France. • : College of Music alumna Colorado native Katie Mahan is collaborating with Colorado Public Radio on a series called 鈥淢ozart Snapshots鈥濃�攖aking listeners on a journey through Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart鈥檚 life in Salzburg, Austria. She talks with Salzburger Marionettentheater鈥檚 artistic director Philippe Brunner about the theater鈥檚 full-length opera productions using hand-carved marionettes.
