Volunteers from a variety of campus groups will be available to help new students move their belongings into ²ÊÃñ±¦µä residence halls Aug. 16 and Aug. 18 as New Student Move-In begins next week.

The 2011 Move-In also marks the opening of the campus's newest residence hall, Williams Village North. Built to a high Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design or LEED standard, the building has myriad sustainability features including energy-efficient lighting with daylight harvesting, advanced heat-exchange systems and low-volatile organic compound or VOC materials.

Williams Village North will house the university's two newest Residential Academic Programs, or RAPs, which will use the building as a living and learning laboratory. The building also will be home to architecture Assistant Professor Matthew Jelacic, who will serve as faculty in residence for both of the RAPs -- Sustainable by Design and Social Entrepreneurship for Equitable Development and Sustainability.

Jelacic will teach classes in the building and also was involved in aspects of the building's design.

New CU-Boulder students will move in Aug. 16 through Aug. 18 with the majority of freshmen moving in on Aug. 18, according to Kambiz Khalili, executive director for Housing and Dining Services.

Volunteer movers will be stationed near all campus residence halls to help students and their parents move belongings into the halls as quickly as possible. The volunteers will be available primarily on Aug. 16 from 8 a.m. to noon and Aug. 18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Volunteers from the Residence Hall Association, returning residence hall residents and students from several student groups will wear purple CU Welcoming Assembly 2011-12 T-shirts identifying them as move-in staff. Residence Life staff members will wear building-specific T-shirts with the residence life logo and a 2011 marking.

Other volunteers will be provided by the Panhellenic Association, Inter-Fraternity Council and the CU Hockey team. More than 100 volunteers will come from the Stampede Leadership Camp. Throughout Move-In days, more than 150 volunteers will be on campus to assist.

Students who attended an orientation session in the summer will move in on Aug. 18. All new students are required to move in by 5 p.m. on Aug. 18 but returning students can move into residence hall rooms any time from Aug. 18 through the weekend, said John Fox, associate director of Residence Life.

"We're delighted to welcome the new incoming class and provide a dynamic residential living environment," Fox said. "This is a time of significant change for incoming students and their families and we strive to make this experience memorable and successful."

Information tables with handouts for new students will be set up at Williams Village, the Kittredge complex and the Regent Administrative Center near Farrand Field.

Social activities for new residence hall students will be held the evenings of Aug. 18 and Aug. 19 and all first-year residence hall students will be required to attend a hall meeting with other students from their floors to get acquainted and to learn about policies, services, the roommate agreement and other activities planned for the week.
