Want to start your week on the right note? Attend I Love Mondays in the UMC. Sponsored by the , the program provides free activities for students every Monday of the academic year. On March 7, 60 participants made bamboo mason jars.
“I’m a religious I Love Mondays attendee,” said Stephen Kim, a senior economics major from Aurora, Colorado. “It brings up the mood on Mondays.”
In addition to offering a fun activity, I Love Mondays partners with clubs and organizations on campus to promote events and provide information about resources available to students.
“It creates community and brings people into the UMC,” said Kendall Lundquist, student coordinator for the program.
One Monday per month is craft day. The remaining Mondays offer food-based activities such as the wildly popular root beer float day. Still to come this semester are s’mores cups and Sharpie mugs.
“My friend and I do homework here every Monday so we can come,” said Rachel Berezin, a sophomore from Parker, Colorado, who is studying chemical and biological engineering.
Now in its fourth year, I Love Mondays runs from 2 to 3 p.m., every week, in the north dining room of the UMC. The program receives funding from a weekly programming budget and is free to all CU-Boulder students.
“I think it’s cool they have things students can do for free,” said Katie Han, a senior psychology major from Aurora, Colorado. “You should come. It’s a great start to the week and you get to interact with everyone around you.”
I Love Mondaysreaches approximately 2000 students per year, with roughly 45 people attending on craft days and 75 to 100 attending on food activity days. Participants can join the I Love Mondays loyalty program and work toward completing a punch card, which can later be redeemed for prizes like Starbucks or Illegal Pete’s gift cards.
