Writer-director Niki Tulk's collaborative art production titled Ophelia | Leavespremieres at the ATLAS Black Box Experimental Studio on Friday, Jan. 27,and Saturday, Jan. 28.
With reference to Shakespeare's character in Hamlet, Tulk describes her production as "an exploration into what might have happened if someone had listened to Ophelia, and learned her song." Theperformance weaves poetry, soundscapes, video projectionsand live and recorded cello into "a meditation on the spirit of Ophelia as she might have existed . . . an 'undiscovered country' who defies that she can speak only of absence."
With influences such as Ann Hamilton, Ruth Zaporahand Australian theater-maker Jenny Kemp,Ophelia | Leavesis an exploration into what might have happened if someone had listened to Opheliaand learned her song.
The event is free and open to the public.
