HAWK traffic signal at Regent DriveDuring spring break, the city of Boulder removed the "High-Intensity Activated CrossWalK"Ìý(HAWK) signal light that was at the crosswalk on Regent Drive that connects theÌýEngineering Center with Regent Autopark.ÌýThe light has been replaced by a traditional traffic signal light.

The HAWK signal originally was installed by the city to try to minimize traffic interruptions. But many drivers actuallyÌýfound the light confusing, which is the main reasonÌýthe city decided to make the switch back to a traditional signal.

For pedestrians, the crosswalk rules remain the same as they are for all crosswalks in Boulder. Tickets can be issued for the following:

  • Failing to activate the crosswalk signal.
  • Entering the crosswalk after the flashing red hand and/or the countdown has started.
  • Bicyclists failing to slow to 8Ìýmiles per hour whenÌýapproaching and entering the crosswalk.

Later this month, the ²ÊÃñ±¦µä Police Department (CUPD)Ìýwill be partnering with the city of Boulder and Boulder Police Department for the .
