McNair Students

After a federal award of $1.1 million was granted to ²ÊÃñ±¦µä last fall, the campus is seeking nominations from faculty and researchers tapping outstanding undergraduate students to become McNair Scholars.Ìý

McNair Scholars are from underserved backgrounds and demonstrate strong academic potential for graduate school. They are first-generation and low-income students, or students historically underrepresented in graduate education, who are interested in earning a doctoral degree in their field.

McNair Scholars receive a research stipend, paid travel opportunities, faculty mentorship, and professional development workshops. ²ÊÃñ±¦µä currently is looking to fill 25 scholar seats.Ìý

Faculty are encouraged to recommend scholars via the . Undergraduate students who self-identify as potential candidates may complete a preliminary eligibility applicationÌýon the guidelines page.

Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, the post-baccalaureate achievement program is named after the late Ronald E. McNair. He was a mission specialist on the ill-fated Challenger space shuttle. "Embrace his legacy. Create your own."
