oSTEM group at last year's symposium

Join Out in STEM @ 񱦵 (oSTEM @ 񱦵), a campus group promoting LGBTQIA inclusion and community in STEM, for their spring 2018 symposium, Queer in STEM: Celebrating Diversity in Gender Experience and Expressionon Friday, April 13.

Thegoal of the event is to celebrate gender diversity in STEM by creating a dialogue between queer groups, women in science groups, other advocacy groupsand allies. All genders, sexualities and allies are welcome to attend; there will be games, advocacy training, research presentationsand Q&A with queer, transand allied academics.

At the workshops, learn fun skills such as making modular origami sculptures and building screaming rocks with micro-controllers. Listen in on STEM research presentations, which include “Frontiers in Quantum Information and Computing,” “Journey to the Red Planet,” “Do Habitable Planets Require Magnetic Fields,” as well as more topics to be announced.Learn essential advocacy skills in a joint presentation from the Office of Victim Assistance and the Office of Institutional Equity and Compliance, as well as allyship presentations from the Gender and Sexuality Center.

There will be free appetizers and Indian Cuisine for dinner. Attendance for the full duration of the event is not required for participation. , but it also will be possible to register at the time of the event.

oSTEM @ 񱦵 hosts weekly meetings at The BOLD Center on campus 7–8 p.m. Mondays.
