Distinguished Scholars Debate School Desegregation Issues At CU Conference

Whether the era of school desegregation is coming to an end and related questions will be addressed by leading legal scholars, sociologists, political scientists, educators and litigators Oct. 13-14 at the University of Colorado School of Law in a conference titled "The End of School Desegregation?" The 8th Annual Ira C. Rothgerber Jr. conference will be in the Lindsley Memorial Courtroom of the Fleming Law Building and is sponsored by the Byron R. White Center for the Study of American Constitutional Law.

Diversity External Review Board To Visit CU-Boulder Oct. 11 And 12

An external program review to assess diversity efforts at the University of Colorado at Boulder is scheduled for Oct. 11-12, with team members examining campus diversity plans and key strategies and progress for the four administrative divisions, schools and colleges. According to Ofelia Miramontes, associate vice chancellor for diversity and equity, the visit is important at this stage of implementing strategies because the input will help ensure campus efforts are moving in the right direction to meet the goals.

Colorado Collections Web Site Brings Artworks To The Public

Art enthusiasts in Colorado, or anywhere in the world, can now log on to the CU Art GalleriesÂ’ collection from the comfort of their homes, thanks to the galleriesÂ’ Web site. The University of Colorado at Boulder site features 300 works of art from the CU Art GalleriesÂ’ permanent holdings, called the Colorado Collection, accompanied by dozens of newly researched essays about the artists and the historic and cultural context of their art.

CU-Boulder's Lab For New Media Strategy And Design Announces Grant Recipients

Six professors at the University of Colorado at Boulder have been selected to receive research grants from the Lab for New Media Strategy and Design. The lab, located in CU-Boulder's School of Journalism and Mass Communication, is an initiative funded by Omnicom, the worldÂ’s largest communications holding company. OmnicomÂ’s current interactive holdings include Agency.com, Organic, Red Sky Interactive, Rapp Digital, Eisnor Interactive, Nuforia, Razorfish and @tmosphere.

CU-Boulder Libraries Group Presents Glenn Miller Program

"Portrait: Glenn Miller," a program centered on the life of the famous bandleader, will be presented on Thursday, Oct. 12, by the University of Colorado Friends of the Libraries. The program begins at 7:30 p.m. in the chapel at The Academy, 970 Aurora Ave. in Boulder. The program is free and open to the public.

CU-Boulder Institutes Fall Break Oct. 5-6

For the first time on the campus of the University of Colorado at Boulder, a fall break is being instituted this year on Oct. 5-6, providing a two-day break during which classes will not be held. "The break is designed to give students a short breather during what would otherwise be 12 weeks of continuous classes between Labor Day and Thanksgiving," said William Kaempfer, associate vice chancellor of academic affairs.

CU-Boulder Fraternity Makes Balloon Drop At Senior Centers On Friday, Sept. 29

Fraternity and staff members from the University of Colorado at Boulder will distribute about 500 balloons to senior centers in Boulder on Friday, Sept. 29, following a day-long campus career fair at the Coors/Events Conference Center. Several volunteers from the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity and the CU-Boulder Office of Community Relations will deliver the black, gold and white balloons from the fair to senior centers and residence homes in Boulder. The balloons will be delivered Friday from about 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Nationally Recognized Entrepreneur To Speak At CU On Management Issues

Search For Intelligent Life Topic Of Oct. 10 Symposium

An internationally known group of speakers will gather at the University of Colorado at Boulder Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m. in the Cristol Chemistry and Biochemistry Building, room 140, to debate the possibility of intelligent life beyond Earth. Panelists at the free public symposium, "Is There Intelligent Life Elsewhere?" will talk about the ongoing search for life away from Earth and will dissect some of the major questions surrounding the idea, before opening the floor for debate.
