WGST supports #ScholarStrike for racial justice

The faculty and staff of the Department of Women and Gender Studies (WGST) support the  for racial justice on September 8th and 9th, 2020. The national strike has been called by Anthea Butler (Religious Studies, Africana Studies, Univ of Pennsylvania) and Kevin Gannon (History, Grand View University) in the wake of the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, WI, and the many other police murders of African Americans of all genders in recent months and across history. As a department, we stand in solidarity with BIPOC students and community members to take a collective stand against police violence against Black communities and other communities of color. We encourage our faculty, staff, and affiliates to support the strike in any way possible. We encourage supervisors of staff and graduate instructors to support their supervisees who are engaging in the work of racial justice, either by taking time aside from work, or in other ways. Some ways of supporting the strike are listed here: .
