Finding home where you are

November signifies warmth of hearth and home鈥攐r so the stereotype has it. Instead of the stereotype, we suggest this month as a time to reflect on what home means to you. Infuse old traditions with a new focus on鈥攁nd commitment to鈥攚ellness.

  • Options: Enjoy in-person, campus-specific wellness events as well as virtual presentations and panels.
  • Topics: All facets of health and wellness.

Friday, Nov. 8, 12 p.m. 

  • Location: C4C Flatirons Room
  • Event: Watch a short documentary film that explores the tragic events surrounding the deaths of six Chicano activists in Boulder, Colorado, in 1974. Stay for a Q&A and food after the film.
  • Outcome: Gain valuable insight on social activism at 彩民宝典. 

Monday, Nov. 4, 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

  • Focus: The benefits of gratitude.
  • Content: Tips for better sleep, mental strength, reduced tendency toward aggression, improved mental health and physical health and more.
  • Key takeaways: Gain resources, information and opportunities to practice various gratitude exercises.

 

One student鈥檚 experience leaving home to study abroad

  • Researcher: Meredith Lewis 
  • Content: Learn about her experience studying abroad in Shanghai, describing the initial fear of leaving home for the first time.
  • Outcome: Learn how she adapted and gained confidence through new experiences. The trip opened doors for her, leading to plans for graduate school in China.

Wellness resources for our herd

Learn about campus services, including dining, bus transportation and residence hall front desk hours.

 

All residence halls, including Bear Creek and Weber Hall, will remain open for fall break. There will be limited dining, transportation and front desk hours.

Learn how to offer practical help, emotional support and listening with understanding can make a significant difference during their rebuilding process.

Join CISC and your LGBTQ+ family for a celebration dinner before break. Plus, take home some tools to get you through the season.

Join us for a special Foodie Tuesday event celebrating Native and Indigenous Heritage Month with Ch'il Indigenous Foods. This event promotes plant medicine and food sovereignty through grassroots activism, featuring the sharing of traditional Indigenous plant foods and practices. Attendees will also receive plants to take home and grow, encouraging sustainable food practices.

 

Course Design Matters: Arts & Sciences Support of Education Through Technology

  • Speaker: Karen Crouch on the importance of thoughtful course design for improving student learning and easing faculty instruction.
  • Focus: Effective course design supports in-person, online, hybrid, synchronous, and asynchronous teaching by creating an inclusive and engaging learning environment.
  • Recommendation: Start with 鈥渂ackwards design鈥 by setting clear learning goals, building structured modules, testing course elements, and refining the course continuously.
  • Consultation: Faculty are encouraged to seek support from ASSETT (Arts & Sciences Support of Education Through Technology) at any stage of course preparation.
  • Insight: Crouch reflects on an instructor鈥檚 excitement and challenges with incorporating new technologies and active learning strategies into their course.
