Mentoring in the MBA Program

Mentoring Event

Finding a mentor while in an MBA program is a great way to build your network, get valuable advice, and learn about different industries and career paths for post-MBA life.

The is the formal mentoring program offered through Leeds. It provides one-on-one executive-to-student mentoring to MBA candidates. The program has been very successful, doubling in size each year and generating positive feedback from both students and mentors. The program is open to full-time and evening MBA students; there are 110 matched pairs from the class of 2019, which is 50% more than the previous year!

John Helmers, Associate Director in the Graduate Career Management office, shared this success story from an anonymous student in the mentoring program: I want to share some MBA PMP feedback with you - this is the best thing which has happened to me at Leeds. Kevin is my mentor and he is awesome. Luckily we have found a common ground and we can discuss almost anything. We share Lunch/Dinner/Coffee and have great conversation together which gives me unique insights into the business world. I want to thank you for giving us this unique opportunity to learn from an industry expert and get their unbiased opinions. It is very hard for students like us to establish a direct connection with a C-suite executive. We both share great rapport and I hope to build on this relationship.”

Leeds recently held its annual Mentoring Spring Celebration & Senior Send-Off at the St Julien Hotel in Boulder. The night featured networking, appetizers, and a variety of speakers, including Katie Connor, the Executive Director of Career Development, and a variety of student & mentor speaker pairs sharing how their experiences have shaped their career paths and the Leeds experiences. It was a great way to wrap up a successful three-semester mentoring experience.
