The University of Colorado offers Online Beginning Greek 1-2 will move students through the entirety of basic Greek grammar using a standard textbook (Anne Groton’sÌýFrom Alpha to Omega: A Beginning Course in Classical Greek, Fourth Edition, Focus Publishing, 2013). The course includes recorded lectures on Greek morphology and syntax, as well as recorded help sessions with teacher-student dialogues to help you work your way through challenging exercises and reading passages selected from ancient authors. You also receive direct, daily, online access to an instructor for help, support, and responses to your questions about the material.Ìý Daily online quizzes and weekly tests measure your progress and help you and your instructor identify areas for improvement. If you complete the work successfully, you will receive a grade and transferable university-level credit. This course is, in other words, every bit as challenging and rewarding as a face-to-face class. In fact, experience has proven that students who emerge from this program are able to compete on equal or better footing with those who have learned Greek in a traditional setting.
This course is designed for serious students who intend to devote the time and energy it takes to learn this intricate but rewarding language. Students need not know any Greek at the beginning but should progress over the course of ten weeks to the point that they are reading intermediate-level texts like Homer, Sophocles, and Plato.
No affiliation with the ²ÊÃñ±¦µä is necessary. The course may be completed remotely, entirely online.
