Climate Change Impacts

The impact of climate change on infrastructure is an area that I have been working on for the last decade.  The focus is on assisting decision makers in determining what adaptation policies should be put in place for existing and planned infrastructure. Specifically, the work looks at the financial implications of climate change for local, regional, and national agencies.  Of particular interest is the cost of climate change for infrastructure including roads, bridges, rail, and buildings.  These costs include both additional repair costs as well as potential adpatation costs to mitigate climate impacts.

The Chinowsky team has published reports and articles in multiple journals and for agencies including the US EPA, The World Bank, The Asian Development Bank, and The United Nations. A recent effort for the World Bank has been published as an edited volume entitled, .

After a decade of research, development, and consulting, the work is now encompassed in the IPSS software system and has resulted in the formation of a new company, .
