STARLIT Research Mentor Fellowship

The STARLIT Research Mentor Fellowship provides an opportunity for graduate and postdoctoral students to hone their teaching, communication and project management skills.

STARLIT Research Mentor Fellows mentor an undergraduate or community college student on a STARLIT-related research project through the SPUR Program. Fellows submit a research project proposal by January 31, 2025, help select a student, and oversee the students' research efforts over summer 2025.

STARLIT award funding covers the students' wages, and also provides a stipend to STARLIT Research Mentor Fellows. Please see the fourth bullet below.

STARLIT Research Mentor Fellows commit to mentoring SPUR students for 4 - 8 hours per week for 10 weeks in summer 2025. Research Mentor Fellows benefit from wraparound administrative support with intern selection, onboarding, scheduling, and programming. This enables Fellows to focus their time and efforts on mentoring.

STARLIT Research Mentor Fellows receive the following benefits and recognition for their efforts:

  • $1,000 stipend
  • Internship administration support
  • Opportunity to list 'STARLIT Research Mentor Fellow' on resumés and CVs
  • Opportunity to use the STARLIT Research Mentor Fellowship to fulfill the ²ÊÃñ±¦µä Doctoral Practicum (for doctoral students in aerospace engineering only)
