Center of the American West Internship Program Opportunities:

The Center of the American West Internships Program offers opportunities for CU-Boulder undergraduates (juniors and seniors) to work for public and private organizations on projects that deal with Western topics and issues, and offer professional training for the student.

These 3-credit hour internships foster students’ development as community leaders working for a sustainable West. Interns must register for the Center of the American West Internship Program course, CAMW3939. They are required to work a total of 120 hours for their employer over the semester, and must also complete academic assignments including weekly journal entries, mid-term and final reflection papers, and a final presentation.

To qualify, applicants must be current degree program students at CU-Boulder with a minimum of 60 credit hours in progress at time of application, and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Ìý- Science and Conservation Intern

Work with The Nature Conservancy’s science and conservation program staff to manage a variety of projects related to land and water conservation, and with other staff in the Boulder office on special projects. There will be opportunities to learn about conservation career options from staff in various departments (science, conservation programs, policy, marketing, legal, and fundraising) and to attend special events with visiting guest speakers.Ìý

Internship Description / Nature of Work:

Help bring history to life for Colorado students! This internship is designed to give the intern experience working with elementary and secondary students in a museum setting. Primary duties include facilitating school tours, maintaining school programs materials, working collaboratively with volunteers and staff, and supporting the development and coordination of educational resources.

Work Schedule:

8-10 hours per week, preferably divided between two weekdays (for a total of 120 hours minimum over the semester)

Qualifications:

Informal teaching experience with children, experience in an educational setting (formal or informal), excellent customer service, ability to interact professionally with members of the public, interest in acquiring education skills within the museum field, and passion for history or museum studies.
