About
Vision
We envision a world where people have equitable access to safe and resilient infrastructure.
Mission
We strive to improve the quality of life by enhancing the sustainability, resiliency, and livability of communities. We do this through applied research at the interface of the social, built, and institutional environments.
Core Values
We are “All In.” We are committed to giving our "all" to produce the highest quality research with implementable results that improve communities. This includes giving our “all” to ensure every GPO member is successful. To do this, we support and give our time to review and provide constructive comments on each other’s work and recognize team member’s achievements.
We actively create an environment where each person feels seen, heard, and supported. Our group is a collective that acknowledges, respects, and celebrates differences in perspectives and experiences—stemming from differences in race, ethnicity, immigration status, sexual identity, gender identity, economic status, religious beliefs, geographical location—both within and outside of our group. We aim to learn from, build on, and collaborate with underrepresented scholars and practitioners.
We foster partnerships with local organizations and universities to collaborate on research from early design through dissemination. Our work highlights, cites, and builds on locally produced work. We encourage our local partners to collaborate on research activities and papers in ways that do not create a burden.
We remain committed to producing high-quality research results and value honesty and integrity. We will be direct and forthcoming in our communication and promises. We will ensure that we protect the people that participate in our research and will abide by our IRB requirements. We will reflect on biases and minimize discrimination in our data, and only publish results that we are confident are valid, ethical, and defensible.
We recognize that many individuals and organizations gave their time to allow us to conduct our research and could benefit from our findings. We will give back by ensuring that our work is disseminated in diverse sources, including those involved in the research. This includes disseminating our work through peer-reviewed articles, conference publications, popular press, and social media.
