For Students

Students are the key stakeholders in the QRX program, and we want participation in the program to be so much more than just access to internships -- you could get those on your own without our help!  Instead, we hope QRX can serve to help prepare you for entry into the QISE workforce, give you opportunities to develop and practice professional skills, and connect you to a community of like-minded students eager to enter the workforce and share their experience and wisdom with you -- and benefit from yours!

The QRX Cycle

QRX runs over the entire academic year and summer.  Each year, a new cohort of QRX students from a number of academic partners enters the program in the fall semester.  Students in a cohort, regardless of their home institution, will participate in events together during the school year.  In the fall semester, students participate in introductory events designed to give them a foundation for workforce entry -- regardless of whether they intend to apply for internships through QRX or not.  The program is open to everyone and the skills that students build in the fall will serve them throughout their professional career.  In the spring semester, interested students will apply to QSRX internships and those that are accepted will receive support from the program as they work to prepare for their positions, which will begin in the summer.

Students also receive access to the QRX online community, populated by cohort members and available 24/7.  Students can use this space to give and receive support from cohort members, ask questions about the internship process, share useful materials and get feedback on applications, etc.  In addition, students will have access to program leaders for support.  A key goal of QRX is to ensure that students have whatever forms of support they need to be successful in the quantum industry.

Financial support is available as needed for students to participate in professional development events, and students never have to pay to participate in QRX.  Want to join the program but your school isn't participating?  Reach out to the program directors at this link.

The QRX Timeline

Below, see a more specific timeline for QSRX participation through the 2022-2023 academic year.

  1. Late September

    Fall Recruitment Events

Open to all students.  Curious about internships in the quantum information science industry?  Want to learn more about QRX?  Attend a recruitment event at your institution and get all your questions answered by QRX leaders and your faculty advisors.  Sign up for QRX at the event and join a cohort!

  2. Early November

    Ongoing Professional Development

Open to QRX members and interested students.  Ready to start working on your application to an internship position at one of our QISE industry partners, but don't know the best way to format your resumé?  Want a bit of practice interviewing, or just to know what employers look for in an interview?  Throughout the academic year, take advantage of both on-demand and face-to-face professional development workshops and material.

As a culmination of your professional development journey, join in on the QRX Quantum Professional's Day, our big annual student-focused get-together on the ²ÊÃñ±¦µä campus.  QPD is all about you: we will have professional trainers on hand to help address your interests, review your materials, and make sure you are fully equipped for success in your quantum internship journey.

  3. Late November

    Application Last-Minute Check-In

Open to QSRX students.  This event will help ensure that your application is in the best possible shape before submission.  Meet with industry reps and get answers to last-minute questions about the application process, internship positions, etc.  Go into the winter break with confidence in your application!

  4. Early Spring Semester

    Internship Applications Open

When internship applications open, QSRX supports participant students through the application process.  The program itself, as well as your student cohort, are available for questions and guidance.  Good luck on your applications!

  5. Mid-Late Spring Semester

    Internship Onboarding and Prep

QSRX partners typically give their decisions on applications mid-to-late spring semester.  For students who are accepted to internship positions, QSRX will work with industry partners to provide onboarding material and support throughout the semester that is customized to students' individual needs.

  6. Summer

    Internships Begin

You did it!  After going through the QSRX professional development activities and onboarding, you are ready to start your internship!  Best of luck, and we look forward to hearing about your success!  Remember that even after your internship begins you can still rely on your program cohort and the connections you've built over the year to get support and guidance.  And you can provide that wisdom to others too!
